It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year

What I love about Christmas ...Do not be fooled by this picture, I do not love what is going on outside, but it does make it seem a little more like christmas time. Now for what I do love about this time of year, I love Christmas music, if I could listen to it all year long I probably would. Only the classics for me thank you...nothing better then a little Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, good old Frank Sinatra, you get the point. Christmas Eve pizza, I hope I don't disappoint this year. Sadly I don't think it will be as good as moms, usually nothing is. I love decorating the tree, this year is a bit of an exception but we are very grateful to Chey for letting us use hers, it makes our little apartment feel all the more christmasy. I love Dads Christmas games, I sure am going to miss that...maybe the most, I don't think I will ever get sick of them dad, so you might get a break this year but don't think the tradition has retired...I will be back I promise. I love homemade hot chocolate, luckily I have a little still. I love advant calendars, don't ask me why the chocolate is awful but I have to buy them every year. I love trying to find that perfect gift...doesn't always happen especially if you're married to Dave...Their will be no perfect gift until I break down and buy him a gun for Christmas, one day I promise husband...one day. I am sure I am forgetting something but you get the point, I love Christmas. Most importantly I love Christmas with all our family which are becoming way to spread out, one day we will all hopefully find our way back to mom and dads cozy nest. We miss all the fun crazy gatherings at the Powelson house, with all the delicious food, if you leave hungry it's your own fault...We are excited to have a little family Christmas here, but we sure will miss all the family and all of the excitement of home. Uncle Dave sure misses all the little kids...please no one forget about him or he will surely cry. Tonight we watched the old Rudolph movie. How many times have we seen it and it gets better every year. Lottie was glued to the TV while it was on. We will have to add this to our traditions with our new little family. Now for some fun memories... I love that mom always tried to change the clocks back an hour so we would sleep longer...we could not be fooled, but you continued to try anyway. I loved getting to sleep in mom and dads bed on Christmas Eve with my sisters and brother, why did we all have to get married, it sure changes things...a lot more squishy! Every Christmas mom would make us make the bed and kind of do our hair...its her fault I am the way I am. I loved sitting at the top of the stairs listening to christmas music until dad would say oh my gosh look what Santa brought and let us finally come down. I hope that I can make Christmas as magical for my kids as it has always been for me. We Love and miss you all.

  1. Ash I miss all of these things too!!! I would like to add to your list though. I love the smells, mmmm mom's ginger snaps, dad's homemade cider, REAL Christmas trees. I also miss the lights against the snow, driving down any street and having them all lit up (BAHUMBUG all you Aussie's who don't put lights up!) Remember mom put jingle bells on the outside of the doorknob one year so we couldn't sneak out early. And I love Christmas Eve, Nativity Scence enactment and all (mom's old lingerie as Mary's outfit), I love pizza night and even more pizza morning! I also love stockings STUFFED to the brim, and dad saying "HO HO HO Mewwy Twismas." I wish it was even cold enough to drink homemade hot cocoa, mmm that sounds delish! So now that I have made myself completely homesick I really like your blog....stop doing everything cuter than me...not fair! It probably won't be like being at mom and dad's but it will be fun to do some of your own traditions....and don't feel too bad this will be my 4th Christmas away and it is still as sad as the first year.... Some day right, we really do have fun memories don't we!

  2. oh my goodness...we are on the same page I was writing all my favorites too...and then I read yours...great minds think alike and I agree I just don't know why we have to grow up. Don't you remember how long the night was and hearing all the reindeer on the rooftop. I swear they really were up there. I loved the threat of coal, and the mewwy twistmas (Lucy asked why grandpa says it so funny). As sad as you are that you aren't home although I'm home I'm equally sad that you guys wont be home with me!!! LOVE YOU GUYS TO BITS!!
